Building a single Etsy listing that generates over $100,000 in revenue might sound like a dream, but it’s a dream that many Etsy sellers have turned into reality. These power listings are the backbone of a successful Etsy shop. The good news is that you can create one, too.
In this blog post, I’ll take you through the 10 guidelines to build a power listing, with a bonus tip to set you on the right path. I’m Dylan Jahraus, an Etsy seller with a passion for helping others succeed, and I’m here to share the secrets to Etsy success!
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of creating a power listing, let me explain why having one is essential for your Etsy shop. Power listings aren’t just high earners; they also attract customers, boost your shop’s reputation, and can even lead to future sales. Imagine having a product that customers flock to, leave raving reviews for, and can’t resist buying. That’s the power of a well-crafted Etsy listing. But you might be wondering how you can transform your modest shop into a revenue-generating powerhouse.
The first step to creating a power listing is to choose a product within a highly searched category on Etsy. When you search for keywords related to your product, look for items with “best seller” or “popular now” tags. If you’re trying to sell something without these accolades, it might not be the right product to bet on. Pay attention to the relationship between views and visits, and utilize tools like eRank to gauge the product’s potential.
High-quality photos are a cornerstone of a successful Etsy listing. Your photos should be bright, crisp, and convey the essence of your product. Variety is key, so include lifestyle shots, images with models, close-ups, comparative size photos, and videos showcasing different angles and textures. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words, and your photos need to tell a compelling story.
To generate traction and create a sense of urgency, put your listing on sale for at least 2 days at a time, running 24-hour sales each week or every other week. Scarcity during these sales can prompt potential buyers to make a purchase decision more quickly.
The success of your power listing hinges on the reviews it receives. Negative reviews can deter customers, and they’re permanently linked to your product. Ensure that your communication is impeccable, and set realistic expectations in your product descriptions. I have a three-step customer service script process to maintain a high review rate.
Since your aim is to drive substantial traffic to this single listing, ensure your product description is informative. Discuss size, color, shipping, and link to other items in your shop. Additionally, link your power listing in all your other listings to maximize its visibility.
Consistently driving traffic to your power listing is crucial. Spend about 20 minutes per day promoting it on Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook. Pin your listing on Pinterest daily, and make sure you have a Pinterest-optimized photo for better results. With Facebook, be relentless in promoting your listing. My students have had remarkable success with my Facebook marketing strategies.
To cater to as many potential customers as possible, include customization options and variations in your listing. Customers should be able to order any size, color, or style from this one listing. This convenience can significantly boost your sales.
Stay on top of trending keywords and adjust your listing title to match them. However, don’t just set it and forget it. Regularly update your tags and the one-line description that includes tags and title keywords. Keep what’s working, and only change what isn’t effective. If you’re worried about altering your successful listing, you can duplicate it to test changes. The free version of Erank is a good tool for this.
Give your power listing prime real estate in your shop. Use the listing photo in your shop banner and branding to ensure that customers see it even when they didn’t initially search for that specific item.
I’ll share one more tip with you – the category in which you list your power item can significantly impact its success. Choose a category that sells year-round and offers products that are made to order and customizable. Your item should cater to special occasions like weddings, baby-related events, or funerals. Ensure it appeals to a broad age range and offers various pricing options to meet different budgets.
By following these ten guidelines and the bonus tip, you’ll be well on your way to creating a power listing that can earn over $100,000. So, get ready to invest your time and effort into crafting your own Etsy success story.
What can I do if I can’t find a “best seller” or “popular now” tag on Etsy for my product’s keywords?
If your chosen product category doesn’t have these tags, it’s essential to reevaluate your product choice. It’s usually more challenging to turn a product into a power listing if it doesn’t align with what customers are currently seeking on Etsy.
How often should I update my listing’s keywords and title?
Frequent updates to your keywords and title can help keep your listing relevant and visible. Aim for seasonal updates and adapt your listing to fit trending keywords as necessary. However, be cautious not to remove tags that are working; only change what isn’t effective. If you’re hesitant about making significant changes, consider duplicating your listing for testing purposes.
Can I create a power listing with any type of product, or are some products better suited for this strategy?
Not all products are created equal when it comes to power listings. Products with broad appeal, customization options, and year-round demand have a better chance of becoming power listings. Consider products that cater to special occasions that remain in demand, such as weddings, baby-related events, or funerals. The key is to appeal to a wide range of customers, so your listing offers something for everyone.
