How Many Listings Do You Need?
I’ve done about 1.7 million in revenue on Etsy and it’s over a million dollars in profit. At my shop’s peak, I had about 900 listings. Now, I have about 500 listings and my shop runs pretty much on autopilot.
I am in the marathon phase of my shop which is the long game. At that point, you have established yourself as a market leader. Think about yourself as a landlord of an apartment complex. You want every listing to be paying rent if they want a spot on your page.
When I first started doing six figures per year, I had less than 200 listings. Currently one of my students does over $55,000 per month with less than 365 listings. I have another student who did $438,000 in his first full year with one product type and 86 listings. I also have a student who did $500,000 on one product across two listings in just one year.
So why am I sharing this? I want to get it out of your head that you need to be creating new listings every day to get to the top 1% of Etsy.
Instead, focus on creating power listings that are revenue drivers. Power listings are listings that do a minimum of $20,000 in revenue. A power listing should serve as many people as possible and fill as many needs as possible. This means all of the sizes, all of the colors, all of the fonts, all of the material options within one listing so that one listing can serve a wide variety of customers. Then we drive a ton of traffic to it through organic social media strategies. From there, we iterate on those best listings with new listings that are repositioned and repurposed for new profitable customer segments.
Example #1: Custom Baby Girl Bow Holder
We do have all these different listing photos in here. In terms of SEO, you can use these keywords – custom bow holder, headband holder, personalized baby shower, gift, pacifier clip holder, girl birthday gift, baby girl nursery, decor girl. The concept is getting in front of as many unique search results as possible.
Example #2: Personalized Jewelry Holder
What we would do is copy the listing and then you’re going to rotate in a new listing photo. So this was the original listing photo, and then I’m going to pull in one that’s completely different. Then we’re going to put in new SEO here.
The keywords we will use for this one are girl cheer bow holder, name art, teen girl personalized gift, jewelry holder, necklace hook, sweet sixteen gift, key holder.
Example #3: Flower Girl Thank You Gift
Then you’ll make another copy and change the listing photo and add different keywords once again. The keywords for this listing will be flower girl thank you gift, gift for niece, personalized gift, goddaughter birthday gift, preteen room decor, light blue and gold name sign.
