In this episode, I break down the truth to exactly why your Etsy listings aren’t getting any sales. You’ll want to be sure to fix these common mistakes in your shop right away to get your Etsy Shop back on track!
In this week’s episode we discuss:
[00:35] Etsy Listing #1: Cat Lovers Unite Tote Bag
[01:41] Etsy Listing #2: Personalized Clutch
[03:22] Etsy Listing #3: Irish Crewneck
[04:36] Etsy Listing #4: Cardstock Shadow Box DIY Kit
[06:18] Etsy Listing #5: Printable Journal Papers
[07:23] Etsy Listing #6: Faceless Marketing eBook
The first Etsy listing example is a tote bag that says Cat Lovers Unite. The shop itself is a brand new shop with no sales. This specific design isn’t something that I would recommend putting on a tote. This listing is also missing the ten types of listing photos. There is also no video of the product in action. The description of the listing isn’t optimized for either mobile or desktop so it’s a missed opportunity. This particular listing also isn’t optimized for Pinterest. This listing is also lacking search engine optimization which is really important to get more eyes on your products.
The second Etsy listing example is a personalized clutch with London themed items printed on it and it is also personalized with a name. My first question when I look at this specific product is what am I buying and why do I need this? I’m not sure if there’s a need for this particular product in the market. This listing is also missing the ten different types of listing photos. If I was going to use this particular print on something, it would be a print on demand all over the mug and remove some of the blank space between all of the different design elements to make it look a bit more saturated. Like the first listing, this one also isn’t optimized for mobile and the pricing strategy is totally off. The product description on this particular listing isn’t describing the product at all. It is also isn’t optimized for Pinterest either which is definitely not helpful.
This item would definitely benefit from having the ten types of listing photos. This product description includes a lot of short tail keywords but we really want to focus on long tail keywords that overlap. This listing is also missing site merchandising and it’s not optimized for Pinterest.
When looking at this particular product, I am unclear who the customer is and who the recipient is. The listing mentions kids in the description, but what I want to know is if this is appropriate for preschool aged children or more for a middle school aged child? An example of a way to make this listing more purposeful would be something like a Spring Break Activity Kit or an Easter Kids Table Activity. This would make this listing much more compelling and searchable.
The product description is not optimized for either mobile or desktop. Like most of the other listings, there is also no site merchandising and it’s also not optimized for Pinterest. This is a product type that would do incredibly well on Pinterest if it was properly optimized. The pricing strategy on this product is also a bit off and there is a huge opportunity to drive up the average order value.
This product is currently in 20 people’s carts but I think the number one problem on this particular listing is the SEO. It looks like the shop owner tried to throw in a bunch of short tail keywords in the product description but the words chosen aren’t strong enough for it to work. In the product photos, it’s important to showcase how people can use the particular item. With this product, there is no site merchandising to encourage multi orders from customers.
After looking at this particular product mockup on their main listing photo, I am not surprised that it isn’t doing well. While the mockup does showcase how many pages the eBook has, it doesn’t show the transformation. What you want to show is the results and outcome, not the delivery mechanism. You really want to showcase the desired outcome aka why people are purchasing this product within the copy on your listing photos. The pricing strategy and SEO are both off. You want to make sure that if you’re going after something that is trending, you do it in a trendy way. The idea of this is good, the execution just needs to be different.
