how to grow on etsy
starting an etsy shop
I am Dylan, a multi-six figure Etsy & Shopify seller. My Etsy shop ranks in the 0.1% of Etsy shops worldwide and we reached $1M+ in sales in just 5 years.

When I look at Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026, I don’t just want to know what Etsy says is trending. I want to know what is actually emerging, what is already saturated, and, most importantly, what sellers should do with that information.
That distinction matters because Etsy is often one of the later places where a trend becomes visible. By the time something is being heavily searched and promoted as an Etsy trend, the trend may have already been circulating across fashion, home decor, major retailers, social media, and luxury design for months.
I’ve spent years looking at trends from a forecasting perspective, including forecasting trends for major brands. Therefore, when I review Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026, I don’t want to simply repeat a list of products with rising search percentages. I want to look at the bigger picture and ask whether a trend is genuinely emerging or whether we’re looking at data that reflects what already sold.
The first thing I want Etsy sellers to understand is that a trend forecast and a trend recap are two very different things.
Etsy’s Spring/Summer 2026 trend edit includes data based on activity from earlier periods, including holiday and gifting-season sales. That means some of the trends being highlighted may tell us more about what shoppers were already purchasing than what they are about to purchase in the coming season.
For me, that distinction is critical.
If I’m trying to decide what products to create for summer, I don’t want to look backward at what sold during November and December and assume it will automatically be the next big thing. Instead, I want to identify the signals that are appearing earlier in the trend cycle.
That’s how I approach Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026. I’m looking for what is arriving, not simply what has already arrived.
One of the Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026 is what Etsy calls the “soft stitch era,” including crochet, embroidery, and textured stitching.
The data highlights growth in crochet sales, an increase in embroidered bags among Gen Z, and rising searches for embroidered jeans.
I don’t necessarily disagree with the direction of this trend. However, I wouldn’t call it a brand-new opportunity.
What I’m seeing is more of a refinement of the aesthetic. Instead of simply jumping into crochet or embroidery because they’re popular, I would look at how these details are being used.
Think soft pastel colors paired with cream or white. Consider gingham, subtle checker patterns, daisies, stars, and delicate embroidery added to denim or other everyday products.
In other words, the opportunity may not be “sell crochet.” The opportunity may be understanding the visual language surrounding crochet and embroidered products and finding a less crowded way to apply it.
Another category included in Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026 is what Etsy calls “World of Whimsy.”
The overall idea makes sense to me. Consumers are increasingly interested in products that feel fun, personal, nostalgic, and expressive rather than perfectly coordinated or overly polished.
However, I would look beyond the specific products Etsy highlights.
For example, I’m seeing more opportunities around dainty florals, grid-like floral patterns, and whimsical birds. Birds such as ducks, herons, flamingos, and swans have already appeared in trend cycles, while songbirds and other natural motifs can offer a slightly different direction.
Therefore, if you’re interested in whimsical Etsy products, don’t just copy the obvious motif everyone else is using. Think about the broader feeling behind the trend and then find your own interpretation.
This is especially important when reviewing Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026.
A huge percentage increase can sound incredibly exciting. For example, an 835% increase in searches for polka dot phone cases sounds enormous. But percentages without the underlying volume can be misleading.
If one person searched for something last year and two people searched for it this year, that’s technically a 100% increase. The percentage sounds impressive, but the actual demand is tiny.
Consequently, never make a product decision based solely on a percentage increase.
The “Gothic Romance” category is another interesting example of why I like looking beyond the label when analyzing Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026.
Stained glass details are still something I’m seeing hold up. However, I’m not necessarily seeing the exact gothic aesthetic described in the trend report as strongly.
Instead, I would look at moodier visual elements. Dark brown florals, navy backgrounds, copper, brass, and vintage-inspired details can create that romantic, moody feeling without requiring you to create an overtly gothic product.
This is an important trend forecasting lesson: sometimes the aesthetic direction matters more than the literal product category.
Another Etsy trend focuses on celebrating small victories, personal milestones, and moments of self-reward.
The concept is appealing, but I’m not seeing this as a particularly strong standalone product trend based on the information presented.
If I were developing products around this concept, I would look for more specific behaviors and aesthetics rather than simply creating products with generic motivational messaging.
For example, one trend direction I would explore is what I’ve called “interrupted rounds,” where objects that would traditionally be circular have cutouts, divots, or unexpected interruptions.
I’m also seeing what could be described as a “favorite daughter” style of typography, with lettering that feels playful and slightly condensed.
Those specific visual details give me more to work with than simply creating another “treat yourself” product.
Wedding trends are always important when discussing Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026 because Etsy has a massive audience of shoppers looking for personalized wedding products.
The botanical bride category includes garden-inspired celebrations, natural settings, pressed flowers, embroidered napkins, wildflower wedding signs, and floral jewelry.
I particularly like paying attention to the broader botanical direction. At the same time, I would be extremely cautious about jumping into bridesmaid gift baskets. This is a perfect example of why sellers need to understand competition, not just demand. Bridesmaid gift baskets have become heavily saturated after some sellers generated significant revenue with successful listings. Once other sellers noticed the opportunity, the market became flooded with similar products.
As a result, a product can have strong demand and still be a poor opportunity for a new seller.
Instead, I would look for less saturated ways to serve the same wedding customer.
The “Dear Diary” category is another one of the Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026 that I find interesting.
Journaling, handwritten notes, scrapbooking, stationery, and documenting memories all fit into a broader return toward analog experiences.
I do think stationery can be a strong area to explore. Handmade card sets, greeting cards, journaling accessories, and related products can serve customers who enjoy tangible, personal forms of communication. Nevertheless, I would again be careful with the search data. When a report says searches for something doubled, I want to know the actual volume behind that increase. Additionally, if the data is coming from the holiday period, some of that demand may have been driven by gifting rather than an emerging spring or summer trend.
That doesn’t mean you should ignore the category. It means you should investigate it further before investing heavily.
Nostalgia is another major theme appearing in Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026.
Etsy’s “Everyday Exhibits” concept focuses on creating personal galleries at home, sentimental objects, childhood influences, and nostalgic design. I agree with the broader idea of nostalgia. However, I would make an important distinction.
The nostalgia I’m watching is more specifically connected to 1990s-inspired childhood aesthetics, while some of the examples in Etsy’s trend edit feel closer to vintage-inspired or “old money” design. Those are not necessarily the same trend.
This is why I encourage sellers to define exactly what they mean when they say “nostalgia.” Is it 1990s childhood nostalgia? Early 2000s pop culture? Vintage Americana? Traditional heirloom design? Each one attracts a different customer.
Ultimately, the biggest lesson I want you to take from Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026 is that Etsy should not be your only source of trend information. Trends start somewhere.
I look at fashion, major retailers, luxury designers, trade shows, social media, cultural shifts, and other places where new aesthetics emerge before they become mainstream on Etsy. That’s why I don’t recommend waiting until you see a trend listed as “hot” on Etsy before creating a product around it. By then, thousands of other sellers may have already seen the same information.
Instead, I want you to train yourself to recognize the early signals.
When I’m researching Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026, I ask myself a few questions:
The purpose of Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026 shouldn’t be to tell you exactly what to sell.
Instead, use trend reports as one piece of your research. If you see crochet, for example, don’t immediately create another generic crochet product. Ask yourself how you could interpret the aesthetic differently.
If you see botanical weddings, don’t automatically launch another bridesmaid basket. Look for an underserved customer need within the same market.
If you see nostalgia, don’t simply put “90s” on a product title. Figure out which version of nostalgia your customer actually wants.
That is where trend forecasting becomes useful.
My biggest takeaway from Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026 is simple: don’t confuse a trend report with a product strategy.
A trend can tell you what consumers are responding to, but it doesn’t automatically tell you what you should sell. Furthermore, a product can be trending and still be too saturated for a new seller to enter profitably.
I want you to look for the story behind the trend, not just the product attached to it.
Look outside Etsy. Watch fashion and major brands. Pay attention to colors, patterns, textures, aesthetics, and consumer behavior. Then bring those insights back to Etsy and find an opportunity that fits your customer and your shop.
Most importantly, don’t wait until everyone else is talking about a trend.
The goal isn’t to be the seller who discovers Etsy trends for Spring/Summer 2026 six months after everyone else. The goal is to recognize where consumer interest is heading and position your shop before the marketplace becomes crowded.
